Fired Heater - Modes of Operation

Typically a Furnace unit operation is simulated in two modes i.e. A Design mode and a Rating mode. A Design mode is one in which the user supplies the furnace heat duty and the flow rates to the furnace and obtains the heat transfer coefficients calculated from the simulation. In the Rating mode, the user supplies the heat transfer coefficients and the simulation program calculates the Heat duty of the Furnace. Although this furnace unit operation is not provided with clear-cut switches indicating the mode of simulation, the user will in fact be using one of the above two modes depending on the choice of parameters supplied.
