CAPE-OPEN Overview

CO-LaN (the CAPE-OPEN Laboratories Network) is a neutral industry and academic association promoting open standards in process simulation software. CAPE-OPEN standards are the uniform standards for interfacing process modeling software components developed specifically for the design and operation of chemical processes. These standards allow integration of different software components like Unit Operations and Thermodynamic Property Packages from different vendors into a single simulation. They are based on universally recognized software technologies such as COM and CORBA.

PRO/II supports access to CAPE-OPEN Unit operations and CAPE-OPEN Property packages.

Unit Operations: PRO/II can call out to the user interface, the calculations, and the report generation functionality of a CAPE-OPEN unit operation.

Property packages: PRO/II native unit operations can use third-party CAPE-OPEN Property packages or Thermo systems or Property Package Managers. Also, CAPE-OPEN unit operations have access (via the Material Objects) to CAPE-OPEN property packages or Thermo systems or Property Package Managers. PRO/II supports version 1.0 and 1.1 of the CAPE-OPEN Thermodynamic and Physical Properties interfaces.

PRO/II supports version 0.9.3 and 1.0 of the CAPE-OPEN interfaces. Only COM-based CAPE-OPEN software components are supported; CORBA-based software components are not supported.
