PRO/II has the ability to use data from sources other than user-input values in its calculations. This data, called Tag Data, may come from either a database server (see Importing Tag Data) or a text readable file (see Tag Data File). Text readable files or Tag Data Files may be compiled by the user with an editor, or generated from a data-reconciliation package such as DataCon. The availability of Tag Data gives the user enhanced simulation capabilities because it allows the user to access live data and/or changing data in an automated fashion.
Importing Tag Data
A Tag is classified as either a Regular Tag or an External Tag.
A Regular Tag is normally read from a Tag File using the Import Tag Data/From File command or clicking the Import Tag data button on the PROVISION Toolbar. The tag is directly associated with some data in the data file.
An External Tag is retrieved from a data server using the Import Tag Data/From Server command, or clicking the Import Server button on the PROVISION Toolbar. The tag may be interpreted or otherwise processed by the data server to access the associated data.
Tag Data from Data Historians
Besides simply importing tag data, PRO/II is capable of communicating with several commercial data historians to obtain tag data directly from them. Users must already have the data historian in operation and accessible to PRO/II over a computer network. See About Tag Data Servers to learn more about this capability.
The Tag List
PROVISION maintains a list of all defined tags along with their associated data values in the Tag Modification Window that is accessed by clicking the Input Tag data button on the PROVISION Toolbar. Tags, and the Tag Data, may be specified or modified through the Tag Modification window:
Click the Add Regular Tag button to access the Tag Data Window and input the tag data.
Click the Add External Tag button to access the External Tag Data window and input the required information.
Modify or delete tag data values directly in the Tag Modification window using the Modify Tag and Delete Tag buttons.
If an imported Tag Data File contains tag names not in the current Tag List, they are added to the list.
Using Tag Data
PRO/II can access the Tags and their associated values on the Tag List in its calculations in the following areas:
Petroleum Component Properties
Stream Data
Assay Data and Curves
Unit operating conditions and parameters.
See Using Tag Data for more information.
Exporting Tag Data
PRO/II can export Tag data to text readable files; however, it cannot export data back to a database server. For more information go to Export Tag Data.
