Column Pumparounds
This window is used to define distillation column pumparound streams, i.e., liquids or vapors which are circulated from one tray to another. There is commonly a heating or cooling duty associated with the pumparound stream. Note that vapor pumparounds are commonly termed as "bypasses".
Pumparounds are only available when using the Inside-Out, Enhanced I/O or Sure column algorithm.
Usage
From the Column Main Window, push the Pumparounds button.
From the Column Pumparounds Window, check the "Add Pumparounds" option.
Pumparounds are added and edited using the tabular format. See Editing Tabular Data for information on the tabular format.
For each pumparound, click on the colored text strings to supply the required and/or optional information. The text strings include:
phase (liquid or vapor)
Default phase is liquid. Click on the current phase to change from liquid to vapor or from vapor to liquid as desired.
name
Name of the pumparound for reference purposes. A default name is supplied which may be overwritten.
tray (first occurrence)
The draw tray for the pumparound. This entry is required.
tray (second occurrence)
The return tray for the pumparound. The duty is always placed on the return tray. This entry is required.
a value
Value for the return pressure to column. This entry is required.
pressure unit
The pressure unit for the pumparound return. To change the units click on the text string "a value" or the numeric value itself and then push the UOM button on the Toolbar. Change the pressure unit using the Unit-Of_Measure Selection Window which is displayed when the UOM button is pushed.
